TERMS OF USE AND LICENSES
All material published in the Open Library is distributed under Creative Commons licenses. The download, use and sharing of all the material on the site must comply with the conditions of use provided for by the specific license assigned to each media.
Creative Commons are standard license agreements, created by the non-profit organisation of the same name with the aim of providing the rights holder with a simple and standardised way to communicate the conditions under which it grants the authorisation to use for work.
The attribution of a CC license also simplifies things for the user, who can find out immediately if and how they can use the work without having to ask for explicit authorisation (read more on the Creative Commons website).
There are 6 types of Creative Commons licenses:
CC BY
It allows you to distribute and modify the work, also reusing it for commercial uses, provided that the authorship is acknowledged, a link to the license is provided and indicate if any changes have been made.
CC BY-SA
It allows you to distribute and modify the original work, also re-using it for commercial use, provided that the author is acknowledged as authorship, a link to the license is provided and indicated if any modifications have been made. Any derivative works must be released under the same license as the original.
CC BY-NC
It allows the work to be distributed and modified, but not for commercial use, provided that the author is acknowledged, a link to the license is provided and indicated if any modifications have been made.
CC BY-ND
It allows the work to be distributed without modification, even for commercial use, provided that authorship is acknowledged and a link to the license is provided.
CC BY-NC-SA
It allows the work to be distributed and modified, but not for commercial use, provided that the author is acknowledged, a link to the license is provided and indicated if any modifications have been made. Any derivative works must be released under the same license as the original.
CC BY-NC-ND
It allows you to download and share the work on condition that it is not modified or used for commercial purposes, attributing the authorship to the author.
Works whose license includes the "ND" clause can only be downloaded upon request.
